STUDENT WELFARE

Te Puke High School aims to make international students feel as comfortable, secure and welcome as we can whilst they are away from home. Our school provides the appropriate support needed including the daily monitoring of attendance which is paramount to academic success. If the student’s attendance is not sufficient to meet his/her chosen course requirements, the High School will inform his/her homestay/ designated caregiver.

There is a team of staff dedicated to helping international students feel a part of Te Puke High School. These include:

·         The Director of International Students is the first point of contact for the pastoral care and academic programme of international students. On arrival the student’s level of English is evaluated and an appropriate course of study is determined. Should any concerns arise in terms of the student’s well-being parents and caregivers are contacted. Computer use is available for international students to maintain good links with home.

·         Year Level Deans provide another layer of support.

·         The Health and Wellness Centre provides a doctor, nurse and qualified Guidance Counsellors

·         Careers Counsellors are available to give career pathway advice.
